Hearing and Speech – Languge Development awareness Program

On 19 th of January, 2020 Pulse polio vaccination camps were conducted all over Telangana and Andhra Pradesh by the State Government. Volunteers from Meenakshi Venkataraman Foundation (MVF)Mr. Raghu, Ms. Sai Priya, Ms. Merlyn, Interns from AYJNISHD- Ms. Manasa, Ms. Lalasa; Interns from Hellen Keller Institute –Ms. Diana, Ms. Laxmi Priyanka and ASHA workers participated in the camp to create awareness on hearing, speech and language development among parents and care takers. Pamphlets containing information about the stages of auditory, speech and language development were distributed to 1000 families. The aim of this awareness program was to insist on early identification, management of hearing, speech and language problems. They were also taught how to check hearing at home effectively. Nurses and ASHA workers at the camp were also given information about the development of the child and requested to refer to FREE services available at Ear to Hear center for excellence by MVF. Many of the parents who attended the camp had queries regarding their child development. The parents and caretakers were pleased with the information provided and were willing to pass on the information to their relatives. Some of the parents followed up for consultation and hearing evaluation. It was a great opportunity and learning to sensitize thousand families across various areas of Telangana ( Musheerabad, Hayathnagar, Vanasthalipuram, Mal, Yacharam, Alwal, Shad nagar, Malkajgiri, mehaboobnagar, secunderabad, Siddipet etc.) within a day.
